It was evident from the sand dunes on Main Beach, that the further you progressed inland, the vegetation became more dense and abundant. There was no plant species present up until the 40 m mark. This in theory was due to the fact that if vegetation were to occur at the beginning of the transect line, they would be impacted by the strong wave action, which contains high volumes of salinity in it, which then affects the nutrients in the sand making it inefficient for plant growth. The spinifex plant was the first identifiable vegetation, and it was only present in the foredunes. They are distributed here as their extensive roots work together to bind the sand.…
