It’s quite hard to think if a family member is suffering a mental condition which gradually lost their memory. It is very challenging and stressing seeing your loved one’s seeing this kind of situation.
In this report, I will discourse on Dementia, types of dementia, common behaviors displayed and what strategy best applied and the support system needed by the family caring with dementia.
DEMENTIA
If we are talking about dementia, some people will probably tell that is a part of aging but it’s not. In rare cases some experience’s dementia as early as 30 years old. It is not being old to suffer this condition but because it is a disease, it is acquired due to some factors. The possible cause of the early onset of dementia is strongly linked with the genes or it’s simply hereditary.

LEWY BODY DEMENTIA
Dementia with Lewy Bodies is a mixture of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease because of the sign and symptoms that are present. For instance, shuffling gait and tremors are present in Parkinsonism while loss of memory for Alzheimer’s. It is caused by low-level of dopamine and acetylcholine that transmit signals into the brain.
COMMON TYPES OF BEHAVIOR IN DEMENTIA AND STRATEGIES APPLIED
1. AGITATION
Having high anxiety levels will lead to rummaging, frustration and even hitting somebody. They become agitated due to infections or medications they are taking in.
Creating a peaceful atmosphere best suits for this behavior. Eliminate tensions. It’s better to put the client into a discrete place where he/she can relax away from the crowd.
2. REPETITION
A person with cognitive impairment tend to repeat questions, spoken words and activities over and over it’s somewhat frustrating and accentuating to the caregiver.
Staying unruffled and be patient fits for this manner. Encourage the patient with a serene voice and a mild touch. Don’t try to argue with them.
