In the study the authors include registered nurses, nursing aids, nursing supervisor, educational nurse coordinator, clinical nurse specialist and a nurse manager in one medical surgical unit at the University of Michigan hospital and health centers(Evans et. al., 2012. p. 281). In order to improve their nursing practice, the health care team conveyed an 8-hour non-clinical workday to review interventions and changes regarding shift report and address the staff issues about reporting done in large conference rooms and the attempt to switch into bedside shift report as one strategy (Evans et. al., 2012. p. 281). In doing this, the team utilizes the use of two patient assignment approaches which includes the bundled assignments divided into 5 sets including patients acuity, infectious precautions, expected admissions, discharges and transfer and nurses would select their own bundles (Evans et. al., 2012. p. 282).
