They may have missed the fact that she has intense anxiety, and that the specific personality disorder that Mona suffers from is borderline personality disorder. At first, when watching the show, I was convinced she may suffer from D.I.D. or even schizophrenia disorder; nonetheless, when we were in class learning about the personality disorders, I realized that she associates with borderline personality a lot more. Her symptoms are almost exactly related, so I would give the directors an applause for their portrayal of personality disorder within Mona Vanderwaal. With Alison, however, it is hard to determine if the diagnosis is true since the director does not have Alison sit down with a psychologist; instead, for her case, I went in blind and diagnosed based off of my true opinion from watching the show. In my opinion, Alison’s actions do link up to dissociative identity disorder with symptoms of potentially developing a personality disorder as a result of all the excessive lying. This was indeed an interesting assignment; hindsight, I never would have thought to examine a television show so closely, but this assignment provided a way to extend what we learn in class into our daily lives, even if it is not
