A lot of blacks weren’t as rich as the whites and struggled, so when it came to voting they didn’t have a say. Many southern states adopted the poll tax in the late 1800’s, but that didn’t mean a lot because you had to have money. You had to take a Literacy test, and you had to prove that you had education for more than six years, you also had to know how to write and read. If you didn’t pass you were not allowed to vote. They were given to voters and racial minorities. At this time it was very difficult for blacks to do anything, they were on a strict rules to follow and if they weren’t followed they’d be punished and sent to jail. Whites had it pretty easy because they thought they were higher level than the blacks. The only whites who were outcasted was the ones who didn’t have a lot of money. Blacks didn’t have a lot of money because it was very difficult for them to get jobs, and if they did they were first to be laid off. Looking back there was not a lot of freedom for a lot of people.
