Destiny Mecomber
We approached an ivy-covered picket fence. A sign by the giant gate in front of us announced that we were at the "Mad Hatter's Mad House." The house itself I couldn't see. But what I could hear was music, jazzy and bouncy, and slightly insane laughter. I turned to McTwisp. "Shall we go in?" I asked gesturing to the oversized fence. The rabbit copied me. "After you." "Uh, I'm kind of shorter than you, and you're a rabbit!" He walked forward, to the gate. "Fine, fine. Let's go." I shook my head as the animal.
He opened the squeaky gate to reveal an ancient and rugged windmill. Though the lights inside were on, everyone was sitting around a long table filled with teapots, tea cups, pastries, miscellaneous jars …show more content…
His eyes began to change from green to a golden yellow. The skin around his eyes were darkening to black and his mumbling began to grow louder, but in a Scottish accent. His clothes started to change to a darker theme.
His companions glanced at one another, looks of fear and confusion painted across their faces. No one had seemed to notice McTwisp and I standing there, except for the angry Hatter.
I remember Gramma telling me about his mood swings. “Tarrant can become very violent during his rage scenes. Usually someone needs to snaps him out of it or he can become dangerous. Simply yelling his name will snap him out of it. Not Tarrant, I mean Hatter. He hates his name.”
So I did as she said. I cupped my hands around my mouth and yelled as loud as I could in my tiny form. “Hatter!!”
Almost instantly you could see the changes reverse to normal. All the others looked our way, finally realizing we were there. "Alice!” The normal Hatter called to us. “Oh, my dear, how nice of you to stop by! You too, McTwisp." He stood up and started walking on the table over to us. The other guests hid under the table or moved their tea cups out of the way as the white rabbit and I continued to walk forward, despite my anxiety about this strange man. I could hear whispers from the table. "Alice?" "Alice is …show more content…
"I-I'm not Alice." He looked confused, not mad. "You're not?" "No you idiot," McTwisp said impatiently. "This is her granddaughter, Caroline." I glanced over at him. "You actually got my name right for once." "Well, after complaining so much, I-" The Hatter cut him off with a wave of his gloved hand. "Why are you here? Why are you so small? How is Alice? Is she well? Does she ever talk about me? I told her to stay with me, but she said she couldn't." "Whoa, whoa! Slow down a bit," I said. Hatter looked at me expectantly. I had a feeling that the others were listening as well. "Um-" "Perhaps you'd like some tea!" Hatter said suddenly. "Come, Caroline." He reached out and wrapped his hand around my body, lifting me into the air. My stomach rolled from the sudden movement. "Uh um Hatter, please be careful!" I called out, my voice going up at the end. It was slightly terrifying being carried by a man 20 times your size. I could see McTwisp hopping alongside us. Hatter was babbling as he climbed onto the table once
