In the short-story “The Tell-Tale Heart” By Edgar Allan Poe, In the old man's house, at about 1 am, a mans greed and selfishness turns him into a killer, he was mad and killed the old man that had never wronged him. At this point you might tell the constant in both stories is that the Cause is Greed, as well as selfishness. “I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture-a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees-very gradually-I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever” (Collections 8, pg.89).
