Trigonometry is a widely used math concept in everyday life. Using trigonometry skills, one can find heights of buildings, towers, and even mountains using angles of elevation and depression. Also, oceanographers use trig to calculate the height of ocean tides. Sound engineers use the basic laws of trig, including the sine and cosine functions, to produce music. Another common use of trig is in the medical field. “The practical application of medical techniques such as CAT and MRI scanning, in detecting tumors and even in laser treatments, etc. use the sine and cosine functions” (Tandon). In astronomy, trig functions allow astronomists to make educated guesses on measurements of celestial bodies because they cannot simply be measured. Linear functions are commonly used in many everyday occurrences. Linear functions are used almost every day in the average …show more content…
Algebra II is a necessary course for those on the route towards going to college. “...students who take Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, and one additional high-level math course are much more likely to do well in college math” (GreatSchools Staff). Also, concepts from this class are often used on standardized tests for college admission. “By the time she’s ready to take the SAT or ACT as a junior, she will have completed Algebra II, which is covered in both of these college admissions tests” (GreatSchools Staff). Also, students gain helpful problem-solving and reasoning skills by completing an Algebra II
