Communication is defined as the processes that people use to exchange information. There are two main types of communication (Videbeck, 2014). There is Verbal and Nonverbal communication. Verbal communication is the words that are spoken to another person. Nonverbal communication is behavior that accompanies the verbal communication. An example of this would be body language or eye contact when speaking to another person (Videbeck, 2014).
Another type of communication is therapeutic communication (Videbeck, 2014). Therapeutic communication is an interpersonal interaction between the nurse and the client during which the nurse focuses on the client’s specific needs to promote an effective exchange of information. 1. Intimate Zone: 0 to 18 inches between people.
