Almost 89% of PD patients during the progression of the disease have speech and voice impairment including laryngeal disorder and problems with articulation of words. Studies have shown that only 3-4% of PD patients’ receive speech therapy. The reviews concluded that speech therapy not necessarily needed in the prevention or progression in patients with PD and preventing complication of motor symptoms. The researchers concluded there were insufficient proof or valuable evidence that the benefit of language and speech therapy are needed for speech impairment in PD patients (Ramig, Fox, & Sapir, 2008).
