Learning is one of the most important activities in which children are engaged. It is at the very core of the educational process, although most of what people learn occurs outside of school. In one of the classrooms there was an object on one of the tables that was a shark box with little pieces of construction paper fish. Each had one of the children’s names on them capitalized so the child could recognize and learn the letters of their name. The teacher would have them place their fish inside the shark to feed it. This builds and develops the child’s imagination. This is an example of Developing Appropriate Curriculum. Another example in was observed when a student would try to build a tower by using one color of …show more content…
Froebel thought that circle time would be recognized as a setting that allowed students to be brought together in a setting that was easy to manage while creating a friendly environment that helped the children develop and improve their interaction skills. The PreK classroom had a unique way of taking attendance. The teachers want to involve the students as soon as they enter the classroom. They are asked to remove their name tag from a bulletin board at the and place it in the bag to show that they were in class. This helps develop and build different skills of following instructions. This is an example of fine motor skills. Fine motor skills is where the child is using their smaller muscles for a variety of tasks. For example, the students have to recognize their name and remove their name tag from the board and place it in the bag. The last room that I shadowed was the three year olds class. Two examples that I observed was the teacher assessing the children. The child was asked to write with a pencil or pen as a method to teach the child how to hold a pencil or pen correctly. At this age it can be challenging. The teacher was assessing the children through a number of different methods. First, the teacher had the child identify his or her name …show more content…
This helps the teacher and parent to understand more about the child and how they are holding the pencil to determine which hand is dominate. This is an example of constructivist learning because children construct their knowledge through scribbles or pictures. This is one way people learn. People construct their own understanding and knowledge through experiences. Included on the back of this paper you will see some examples done in the classroom. Another example in class was a similar process with writing and drawing. However, this example will go through the process of what the teacher did to aid the child in completing a task. The child was asked to draw themselves on a piece of paper, the first time the child drew themselves completely on their own. On a second trial you will may see much improvement, some improvement, or none at all. The second time the teacher sang a song with body parts in the song to help the child include body parts they did not draw in the first picture. The first example shows that this child is ready to draw by using their dominate hand, you will also see that both pictures look somewhat the same. The other picture shows that this child is not ready to draw or is not using their dominate hand due to all the scribbling and confusion on
