As I grew up in the Orthodox Jewish community, I learned that men were responsible to ensure that the needs of their home were taken care of. Men were supposed to go to work each day and make sure that things were paid for. Although it was not uncommon for women to work, typically the jobs Orthodox Jewish mothers would get did not make as much money. They were often jobs that were more adjustable so that they could take care of their kids when they needed and be home earlier when kids arrived back home from school.
