Imagine that you’re an athlete of any sport of your choice and that you are very talented and because of this you have the potential to be a professional athlete. Not only are you skilled at your given sport but you have an overflowing amount of experience being that you played the game throughout your entire life. However because you are a minority you know that it’s an unwritten real that you won’t have the same privileges as your non-minority counterparts. (Primm, Eric, DuBois, Summer, Regoli, Robert (2007) Ever since the initial integration of sports, the number of minority athletes has increased dramatically. Even though there has been a huge increase of minority athletes there is still a heavy presence of racial discrimination in sports which still exists today. There are so many athletes of color from both the past and present who either weren’t presented with as many opportunities or had to experience many racial challenges. It may not be as transparent however racism still exists in subtle ways. For example, the method called stacking characterized as putting athletes in positions based on their race. Also the lack of African Americans in higher management levels in the NBA. African Americans make up a good majority of basketball athletes while only one African American actually owns an NBA team. As a society, we’re starting to be more diverse and one thing we really need to focus more on would be bridging the racial gap in sports. The upper management levels in all sports should be more diverse and not just made up of one color. There should be more ethnicities, races and non-minorities in management not just non-minorities. We can no longer be colored blind to what’s going on, we’ve came along way in trying to eliminate racial issues but we still have a long way to
