They were not written down until modern times. Instead they were only told and passed down by word of mouth, and often went through many many generations. (“Get a Card” Fairy Tales) The origin of the fairy tale is from 1740-1750. Even though fairy tales were told long before this time, the 1700’s were when the stories began to be written down. (Merriam-webster) Fairy tales have managed to make it all this way, and are still moving down through today’s generations. Now some of the most famous fairy tales and the writers themselves. According to a 2004 poll of 1200 children by UCI Cinemas, the most famous fairy tales in the U.S. are Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel. Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood.
