Their desperation to stay together is probably the main reason for why Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths. The list of Romeo and Juliet’s desperate scenes could go on for ages. But the moments in which the two of them threatened to kill themselves, (which they ended up doing) exposed their desperation the most. Juliet did just this in act IV when she frantically addressed the friar and said, “ I long to die If what thou speak’st speak not a remedy.”(Rom., 4.1.66). Fortunately Juliet does not kill herself right there in Friar Lawrence's cell but rather takes a vial from the Friar and fakes an end to her life, which leads Romeo to truly ending his own life. Juliet of course was not the only desperate one in the relationship. Romeo has a different way of expressing his depending need for Juliet. He takes it upon himself to sneak into the Capulets property and climb the orchard walls. This task is not only absurd to the reader but to Juliet as well. Juliet voices her concern when she tells Romeo that, “The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, and place death considering who thou art,if any of my kinsmen find thee here.” (Rom., 2.1.63-65). It is very clear to see that Romeo and Juliet are desperate enough to risk their lives for each other, which makes it brutally obvious to why Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths. The majority of people who read Romeo and Juliet would say that fate plays a part in the blame for the dying of the two main characters. I can't help but agree with this statement, but fate didn't just decide on its own to takes these lovers
