For my Summative Project, I completed my observation hours at Heritage High School in freshmen English classes. I chose this site because it is close to my residence and the contact information was provided by Regis University. When I reached out to the person of contact, she was slow to respond. Taking maters into my own hands, I went to the Heritage High School website and researched the English teachers on my own. While looking around online, I was amazed to find that all of the teachers have links to class web pages. Each webpage has information about the teacher’s classes and how to contact him or her. Some of the teachers even included an “About Me” section that gives a brief description of who they are. Through this mean of technology, I was able to reach out to a teacher at the school through email and tell her about my requirement for observation hours. The teacher put me in contact with the principal and we came up with a plan to complete hours.
The teacher who I observed with for this class was a freshman English teacher at Heritage High School. She has been teaching at Heritage for twelve years and loves it. This teacher works with the other English teachers in the …show more content…
The House on Mango Street is written in small chapters or vignettes and the teacher explained how some students would really like it because it is something different, while other students might not like it because it is unfamiliar and provokes a change to their reading comfort zones. Then the teacher gave an analogy to vignettes by comparing them to a pearl necklace. Each pearl is different and unique on its own, similar to a vignette. However, when the pearls are strung together they make one necklace, similar to vignettes being put together to create one story. I thought that this analogy was helpful and gave students another way to understand a writing
