ARTlandish sits in the middle of Downtown Columbia, snuggled in between a couple buildings and overlooking E. Walnut Street. But this isn’t your typical art gallery, one where you walk the walls and look at art that is roped off with a do not touch sign. This is different, it is unique, and that is what makes ARTlandish so special.
Manager Karen Tiedye has been in Columbia for a long time and she quickly came to recognize the opportunity at hand. “I’ve been here for 29 years and Columbia has always had a killer art scene. I think First Friday takes advantage of that scene.” That art scene coupled with the trendy ways they have brought in more visitors has turned this quiet gallery into a madhouse once a month,
First Friday thrives by turning this art gallery into a social event with some beautiful art showcased on the side. They have fire spinning out in the driveway and musicians and their music echoing sweet music throughout the cozy building. Artists have spaces where they get to engage with customers and those at the event, telling them about their art and what into it. But the biggest hit just very well might be the coffee downstairs or the free wine for those 21 and
