Conclusion:
In conclusion this lab it did meet the purpose, as it was discovered that surface area (due to the percent difference) affect levels of friction more than surface texture and weight. Sources of error for this lab are inaccurate measuring as the scale went up by two so it was more of a guess what number it was pointing too. A way to fix this is to get a motion sensor. A second source of error was that it was hard to get a constant velocity on the sandpaper as the block kept getting caught on little pieces sticking up. A way to improve this is to use another …show more content…
As to recap the start friction should have been bigger then the slide friction (which it wasn’t), but after research on matters of friction it said that surface area shouldn’t affect friction levels (to a certain amount) and surface texture and weight should be the main factors affecting friction. It makes since for a heavier object should be harder to push, making it have a higher friction than a lighter object. Surface texture has the most effect on friction as done between a table and sandpaper, the table has nothing to stop the block from sliding. Yet on the sandpaper there are many “bumps” grabbing the block, trying to hold it back this makes the friction great as it is trying to dislodge the “spikes” in the
