Fusion jazz includes all different types of performances such as the initial style of fusion jazz that consisted of rock music and group improvisations, the RnB style of fusion jazz that had neither improvisation nor accompaniment. Fusion jazz was first created when jazz music was met with rock music. This is because some people called early fusion jazz as jazz-rock or rock jazz. The reason that rock was the first genre which combined with jazz was that during the 1960’s, the contemporary media lost interest in soul music and started to popularize rock music. This group was an American fusion jazz band of the 1970’s and early 1980’s consisted of keyboard player Joe Zawinul, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and bassist Miroslav Vitous. From 1971 to 1986, Weather Report was a long loved fusion jazz group which recorded 15 albums. Above fusion of jazz and rock, Weather Report was able to combine numerous musical genres such as Latin jazz, RnB, New Age music, classical music, World music, and others. By experimenting all sorts of music genres, Weather Report is considered to be a band which played the most relevant music to “fusion jazz”. Other musical characteristics that Weather Report is that their music is strong is a funk taste with exotic rhythm sound. The most popular album by Weather Report was “Heavy Weather” in 1976, and its song “Birdland” is considered the vertices of fusion jazz.
