Cancer deteriorates the body and makes one feel week. Gastro intestinal cancer is one of the leading cancers in America. According to the Handbook of Gastro-Intestinal Cancer, there are plenty of cancers that arise from within the GI tract. One in particular is the “lymphoma” which is an infection in the immune system. In addition, according the Handbook of Gastrointestinal Cancer also states that the most common site of disease is the stomach accounting for 60-70% of cases, followed by the small bowel, duodenum, colon, and rectum. Nevertheless, the events that lead to gastrointestinal cancers are nutrition according to Pierce. Peirce states that although nutrition has gotten better malnutrition is still the main reason why individuals develop gastrointestinal cancers. According to Lauren Peirce one of the main causes of GI cancers is nutrition. Lowering the risk of being diagnosed with cancer comes with nutrition and the foods one consumes. It is proven that with the consumption of salt and salt-preserved food, nitrates, and smoked or pickled foods have been associated with increased risk of developing gastric cancer. Consumption of foods that are high salt does not adjust well with in the body, and may lead to cancer.
