Preceding funding periods were notably focused on 2 main programmes: cross-border cooperation Deutschland – Nederland and transnational North-West Europe. From the beginning of INTERREG has been implementing the programme helping cooperation on both sides of German and Dutch border, however, at first programme was focused on connections from both sides on all levels of cooperation. Then programme was divided into four regions and one them is Euregion Rhine-Waal partially included in the province of the Gelderland and consequently the second funding period programme concentrated more on particular region and its projects. In the province are particularly strong Food and Heath sectors, as well as a manufacturing industry. Constant growth is not possible without cooperation with companies and educational institutions. The province need also qualified workers and experts in these disciplines. What is more, the aim of this part of the Netherlands is to support small and medium-size businesses and try to cooperate with international partners spreading innovative technologies. In the province work Food Valley and Health Valley organisations and had a big contribution to the development of the regions. Furthermore, the province wants to focus on transportation and logistics, like as increase usage of renewable energy. Engagement of many rich and developed countries in the North West Europe programme may help the province to spread and share innovative technologies. As previous examples of projects showed, Gelderland was strongly engaged into technological and business ventures and present ETC can establish and promote these sectors. Since the region has many beautiful landscapes, vast amount of greenery and rural areas, the province should invest more in the renewable energy source in order to not destroy these meaningful aspects of the Gelderland.
