These children that are supposedly straight looking, they’re the ones getting bashed, so now [in the 1990s] they’re protesting. The girls were always getting their asses kicked. Activists say that there should not be gaybashing; instead, people should use genderbashing, which shows the difference between gender and sexuality (Namaste 423). On top of that, aggression has affected transsexual and transgender public spaces which are the areas full of sexual minorities. Gay male public spaces has gay bars and businesses; whereas, transsexual public spaces has transsexual and transvestite sex workers (Namaste 423). According to Pat Califa about differences between gay ghettoes and sex worker areas:
Gay ghettos operate differently than other type of sex zones. They are more likely to be residential districts for gay men as well as places where they can find entertainment. Although johns still enter gay ghettos in quest of pleasurable activities not available within nuclear family, they have better luck scoring if they camouflage themselves as residents of the area.
