I think that there are benefits to the standardized testing that could be helpful in a teaching environment to figure out who needs extra help and also how a teacher can help kids figure out their strength. There are also negative sides to it in, that is can create a bias in the teacher 's mind and if they don’t have a the proper help they need, leading to the potential decision of who they will spend their time one. Standardized tests in schools are also a reflection of the teacher’s ability to teach and also reflects on the school as well. These things can be a determining factor in what is taught in schools. This is the main reason that I am not for standardized testing. School should be geared towards preparing kids for real life and not to pass a test. Some people argue that standardized testing actually is bias towards people who have money, like help, tutoring on these types of test or support if they were falling behind. While others argue that these types of tests are what makes the level field even. As it allows kids who are not financially will off a chance to come out of the cycle. It has been argued that tests like an IQ test and SATs help people who otherwise wouldn’t have an opportunity to go to college opening door for them. The con to standardized testing in my outlook of how schools run today is what become important in education when there is so much weight on a test. If the point of an education is to educate kids on the world and prepare them for it than why is it not the focus and goal in schools? It would also make sense that what is important to each culture is what that culture will focus on these tests have an ability to liable certain cultures as being intelligent and other as unintelligent. Creating stereotypes about certain culture that could either be good or bad. For example, Asian cultures has a stereotypes attached to it that says “if your Asian your going to have a high IQ and do better on the SAT”. This doesn’t mean that all Asians are doing well on these tests, but they are more likely to do because it is also a cultural importance. Like in America most Asian cultures put a high stress on test taking and general analytical skills, but this
