These images are absolutely opposite of the traditional images of what God should look like. For instance, “Mary Baker Eddy the founder of Christian Science, referred to God as “our father our Mother,” (Roots of Wisdom Pg. 192). The thought that God could be a women is very interesting. If you think about it, if God was the one who gave birth to the world and created all of us isn’t it and appropriate conclusion that possibly God could be a woman?
Also, another nontraditional image of God is Jesus as a mestizo. “Virgil Elizondo, claims that being a Jew in Galilee was very much like being a Mexican- American in Texas” (Roots of Wisdom Pg. 195). The Jewish community was not accepted by the Greeks, they were treated like second class citizen. For centuries stories of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman have been passed down from generation to generation. According to Robert Penn Warren, “only by separating humans from the divine nature could God set up a condition under which humans could reject sin and create good” (Roots of Wisdom Pg. 189).To understand the way evil effect the world one have to analyze the history of man. Indeed, God created us in his own image and give us the privilege of having free will, the ability to distinguish right from wrong. However, not all of us do the right thing. “Theodicy, is the explanation and justification of evil as an integral part of this best of all possible worlds” (Roots of Wisdom Pg. 189). In fact, there are many categories of evil. For instance, moral evil which is bought about by a moral catalyst like murder or rape. Also, there is natural evil, this evil is bought about by natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados. The final evil is active sin which is an active precursor to passive suffering. Also, in Western religion and philosophy, good and evil is seen as a necessity. Evil and good go together without, one can exist without the other. For, example Fyodor Dostoyevsky stated the point that if evil and suffering disappeared the world would become dissatisfactory.
