This is an important part of the story because emotions and physically feeling the objects are what make this story interesting and what gives the story life. Many things are felt in the battle between Grendel’s mother and Beowulf. Grendel’s mothers hate towards Beowulf for the murder of her son. The feeling of hatred and disgust Beowulf has towards the monsters. The feeling that Beowulf has where he thinks he needs to protect his people and be their savior. These feelings are very important and explains the individuals need and desire to fight but there are also other ways the word feel can be described. For example, the physical feeling of objects or each other. The way the sword feels in Beowulf’s hand and how heavy it is. The temperature, wind and humidity in the air. The Vibration that is made when Beowulf makes when he hits Grendel’s mother with the sword. The vibration that is made when Grendel’s mother stabs Beowulf’s metal armor. The way the ground feels. The way Grendel’s mothers skin feels when Beowulf nocks her over.
Another great sense is smell. Smell plays a big part in this story just like all other senses. There are so many different smells that could possibly be in the air during the fight. The two were close to each other so they could probably smell each other’s breath and body odor. The smell of blood and dirt. The smell of fires that were on in houses nearby. Smell of supper or meal that was being cooked and prepared that day for the families. The smell of fresh flesh and old water from
