Forming - In this stage, most team members are positive and polite. Some are anxious, as they haven 't fully understood what work the team will do. Others are simply excited about the task ahead. This stage can last for some time, as people start to work together, and as they make an effort to get to know their new colleagues. Last year as Kowhai was forming I noticed that everyone didn’t really talk to anyone, everyone was really quiet and was still trying to get used to being in a class with not knowing anyone.. Gradually, the team moves into the norming stage. The team members are starting to feel like their team is more structured and people’s roles are being defined naturally through showing their personalities. One of our team building that was designed for us was The Vault. This caused major issues between Kowhai as everyone wanted to be leaders and no one knew to whom to listen to. I found that a lot of people disagreed with Sheree and Samuel as they were both trying to take charge and gave up. This meant that we didn’t finish the Vault and left everyone annoyed. After this the class created values and rules as a class that they expected everyone to follow, this was done as a team and there was no conflict that arose.
Performing - Performing is the stage of team development when team members have productive relationships and are able to communicate and coordinate effectively and efficiently, at this stage team members are very familiar with one another and how a clear understanding of their team members personalities have. All tasks are being completed well and members are putting positive energy into the group tasks. Some people didn’t like the ideas of some, some didn’t agree with the music people had shown, and also having two strong leaders with two totally different ideas which caused major conflict. We tried to find solutions to fix this which included cooperating. By cooperating and listening to each other’s ideas we were able to come up with more ideas allowing one another to put some ideas forward. This meant that everyone’s ideas have been heard and we could all work together and be in a positive environment. A lot of disagreements arose at the beginning but by using these strategies it was easily sorted
