Although Hammurabi's Code of Law was created almost 4,000 years ago, the basic concepts and principles that he used in his laws and still used today. I believe that Hammurabi’s code of Law was just, and I have reasoning to back that up. The Code of Law was split into 3 sections: Family Law, Property Law, and Personal Injury Law.
Family Law
Overall, I believe that the majority of the laws in the Family Law section were just.
Accused
I do not believe that the punishment is 100% fair to the accused. According to Law 129, if a married lady is caught having adultery with another man, they would be tied to together and cast into the water to drown. I believe that this punishment is a little to harsh to the accused, …show more content…
If he hasn’t the father must keep the son.
I believe though that both Law 148 and 195 are to harsh to the accused.
Victim
I believe that Family Law’s are mostly fair to the victim. In Law 168, the victim is the father, so he has to keep his son if he is decided he is not a victim because of his son.
I also believe that 148 is fair to the victim, the husband. It states that is a man is married to a woman, but the she died from disease, he shall be able to remarry. I think this is fair because there's no way that the husband could have caused her death.
I also believe that Law 15 is fair to the victim, which is the father of the son who has struck him. He has to cut off the his sons hands. I believe this is fair because striking your father is a great misdemeanor, so the son deserves great punishment.
Society
I believe that being fair to society is the most important, because the victim and the accused are just a few people, but being fair to society is hundreds of thousands of people. I believe that the Family Laws are fair to …show more content…
Society
If the Laws are fair to society is the most important because the accused and victim are maybe 2 to 5 people, while society is hundreds of thousands of people. The majority of the Property Laws help society more than it doesn’t help it.
I believe that Law 21 is fair to society because it sets an example for other people not to rob. Another reason why this law is good for society is it gets rid of the robber without having to have the government step in.
I consider that Law 48 was a respectable law to society. For one, it teaches people that not everything has to be dealt in harsh way, which brings peace and balance to people, which therefore leads to a stable society.
Law 53 and 54 state that if a man has opened his irrigation trench or trenches and his water floods his neighbors field, he must fully restore what has been lost. This law is a legitimate law because it is teaching people to become nicer people, which helps create a peaceful society.
In general, the lion’s share of laws are fair to society. In this case, majority rules, which means these laws are fair to society.
