Lee College In the past, people have seen health and wellness as the absence of disease, however, what people don’t realize is the consequences of not taking care of your body. Many decide to choose an unhealthy path of bad habits such as eating corrupt foods, drinking toxic beverages, and ignoring advice given by their health care professionals. To prevent an unhealthy lifestyle, individuals need to avoid bad habits that damage their body and instead adopt healthy habits that lead to a healthy life. Additionally, options from the person’s health care professional should not be taken for granite. All advice should be considered and be addressed to avoid a dangerous outcome.

A personal health goal I choose to avoid an unhealthy lifestyle is exercising when I can and eating healthy foods. I also choose not to smoke because it can influence my state of health. The four Models of Health include:
1. Health belief model – this describes the subject’s mindset of determining how serious they believe their condition is.
2. Health promotion model – this describes the subject’s rationale when dealing with health. This model helps put a positive dynamic on a person’s condition.
3. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – the elements that are necessary for a person’s health and survival and everything included in basic human needs.
4. Holistic health models – this model helps promote the patient’s highest level of health.

Primary prevention is preventatives in place to keep the patient healthy and keeping them from getting diseases. For example, physical fitness, immunizations, and health education programs. Secondary prevention relates to the diagnosis and immediate treatment for someone who already is experiencing health problems. Tertiary prevention stabilizes and treats irreversible disabilities and diseases.
