As a hero you have to prove that you are there for people who don't you as well as they can, or just helping out people who helped you out in the past. Odysseus went back and physically took them with him, after realising the truth about the Lotus-Eaters. He could’ve left them there and still have enough men to sail the ships, but he as a loyal king choose not to leave anyone behind, to go home. After Odysseus’s men got held captive by Circe on her island. He had was then notified by…… then he had to go and rescue his men who had been turned into a pig/swine by Circe.
