High pressure turbines can and due exhaust to Medium and Low pressure turbine to regain useful energy and enthalpy still present in the high pressure exhaust steam. From there the steam in then used to power Laundry, galley, and space heating requirements, and finally gland sealing steam for packing and labyrinth seals. Steams is also used for air ejectors to draw vacuum on components in the plant. Steam is the best method to power larger ships. That is why it powers the largest ships in the Navy. Its inherent efficiency is why most civil power plants are also steam driven. The drawback to steam is the space required to operate such a plant restricts use to mainly large ships. Also, the high maintenance cost or maintaining the plant, feed water, pumps, and condensers make steam most costly on smaller scales than the benefits of its efficiency. Steam turbines are external combustion engines requiring more components and space to function than other propulsion …show more content…
You also have centrifugal superchargers. Superchargers are forced induction power adders driven off the engine using gears or belts which substantially requires lots of horsepower from the engine to drive them, but they also return more power than they consume to offset their negatives to a positive. Supercharges are the easiest way to add power to many gasoline engines because they bolt on fairly simply and only require new belts and air piping to set them up. You will have to increase injector flow rates and fuel pumps, and the fuel map to use them as designed but they will return massive power for their
