CORE stands for (Congress of Racial Equality). The purpose of CORE was to challenge segregation and discrimination through nonviolent resistance at restaurants, waiting rooms, and other public areas. This organization is not still needed for blacks because it has served it’s purpose by African Americans having the freedom to sit wherever they want in a public space according to their will. “The Civil Rights Movement” (Szumski, 2003), “as the quest for black rights intensified in the 60s, the CORE began to abandon its long-held held belief in nonviolent protests and promote more militant, separatist agenda. BPP stands for (Black Panther Party). The purpose of the Black Panther Party was self-defense amongst African Americans. The Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland California on October 1966. It was the largest and best known armed black organization of the late 1960s and 70s. The Panthers openly carried weapons on the streets. The party spread across the country, opening chapters in many ghettos. They popularized the slogan “Off the Pigs” which meant kill the police. They were not anti-white and accepted white support. The party combined black nationalism with marxism. College students Huey Newton and Bobby Seale both started the Black Panther Party. Unfortunately, the Black Panther Party isn’t still a functioning organization in modern times because it was crushed by the FBI.
Last but certainly not least, the SNCC Organization. SNCC stands for (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). The purpose of the SNCC was to coordinate activities aimed of desegregating places of public accommodation in the South.
