Homophobia is the fear, or prejudice towards homosexuals, which a lot of the time results in violence, bullying, and even death. However, it is wildly believed that a man being with another man was actually acceptable in some ancient time periods. It is mainly thought that the intolerance towards homosexuality didn’t come until the Middle Ages, around the bringing up of Christianity. It wasn’t until later on that psychologists started to come to realize that homosexuality is really a normal thing that can’t be stopped. This concept has changed drastically, especially over very recent years. Same-sex couples have made a huge impact on today’s society by changing the social and legal definition of family.

Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council says that “Compared with children raised by their married biological parents, children of homosexual parents: Are much more likely to have received welfare growing up.”. The problem with this study is that statistics can be interpreted in many different ways. Across the United States there is a surplus of heterosexual parents rather than same-sex parents, so of course the percentage of same-sex families that receive welfare is going to be higher when the actual number of same-sex couples is so much smaller than that of heterosexual couples. This would also include the families that consist of two women, and on average women make less money than men in the United States therefore it is safe to assume that those women might need more assistance from the government than a family consisting of a man and a woman.
