Plot:
• Esperanza and her family moved many times and disliked each home but her father told them the house on Mango Street is way better. Esperanza was excited but when she got there she did not like the house, she wanted to leave the house on Mango Street.
• Esperanza made a lot of new friends, like Cathy. Cathy becomes Esperanza's friend till next Tuesday, that's because Cathy will move next Tuesday since the neighborhood is bad(she was referring to Esperanza and her family)
• After Cathy leaves Esperanza makes 2 new friends, Rachel and Lucy. Throughout the story it shows how Rachel and Lucy's friendship grows with Esperanza and her younger sisters friends too, Nenny. They went on …show more content…
Symbols:
• The House- the House symbolizes how Esperanza tries hard to become a part of the community and how she achieves the dream of having a house that she is proud of living an downing, “have a house…. a real house...one I could point to”
• Bike- the Bike symbolizes Esperanza's friendship with Rachel and Lucy. In the beginning Esperanza is lonely and only has her sister Nenny to play with. When Esperanza meets Rachel and Lucy they offer to take turns on the bike which begins a new friendship.
Quotations:
• "They will not know I have gone away to come back. For the ones I left behind. For the ones who cannot out."- This quotes shows that Esperanza is leaving everything behind at Mango Street but will come back for eventually because Mango Street contains all the stories of her life.
• "have a house...a real house...one I could point to"- This quote shows that Esperanza is determined to move into a house of her own that no one can judge because it will be perfect. It shows how she will rise above because this will be a challenge for a poor Hispanic girl to achieve but her determination will allow her to achieve this
