The invasion played out exactly as planned. The plan was to send in a division of panzer units to break through the enemy lines. Those panzer breakthroughs made room for four separate attacks directly headed for warsaw and Brest-Litovsk to begin. Two attacks headed for Warsaw from Germany, and two for Brest-Litovsk from Czechoslovakia and East Prussia. The invasion worked out very well from the start. The polish air force was eliminated by the luftwaffe in two days, and the panzer units successfully cut through to their desired locations, and the stuka dive bombers proved their worth, and worked very successfully. The Soviet Union joined in from the east, the only border Germany could not attack from. The Nazi-Soviet pact ensured help from the Soviets in Germany’s invasion. Poland had no defense to Hitler’s blitzkrieg. The polish army wasn’t large enough or strong enough to defend Germany’s attack. Polish cavalry tried to defend against panzer units, but were easily brushed aside. On September eighth 1939 Nazi troops met at Warsaw, and began advancing on Warsaw. Warsaw did not surrender, but after the german war machine was unleashed onto warsaw they eventually surrendered. This was on September 27th.
