The cultures of Ancient Greece change over the course of their approximately 800-year history. Nonetheless, artistic and historical ideas connect the various stages of ancient Greek history and link the cultures of Ancient Greece to their predecessors in the ancient world. Greek art often depicts battles and brave warriors, which is also the case in the art of Mesopotamia. Narratives such as The Odyssey and The Iliad recount the courage of Greeks in mythical battles and inspire the heroic ideal of Greek manhood.
