Through out her journey her goal remained consistent: to locate her parents and rejoin their family. However, Coraline achieves more than her original goal; she earns the respect, and more importantly, the attention that she had been lacking from her parents. She no longer despises them for working too long of hours or not spending enough time with her. Instead, she acknowledges their unconditional love and all the sacrifices they make in her benefit. The final stage of Coraline’s journey as a hero is the freedom to live. In this stage she neither anticipates the future nor regrets the past. Here, she is content after saving her family. The work Coraline has put in to better their life style is successful. This final phase of Coraline’s adventure as a hero represents her willingness to do anything for the ones she loves, even if she doesn’t feel the love is mutual.
