The author of to kill a mocking bird Harper-Lee obviously has a negative view of prejudice. She paints a picture of how Tom Robinson is an innocent man and he is getting prejudged because of his black skin. Although in the time period of the trial it would have been very hard to get a fair trial Harper lee shows just how racist and unfair the time period was for the black people. The society saw them as lesser. Lesser than the type of white men like Bob Ewell who was extremely racist. The town of Maycomb was full of people who only cared for themselves and would demonise the black people. It is likely that they feel threatened by anyone that is different to the average Maycomb family. Harper Lee also had mixed opinions of the peoples morals in Maycomb. Scout asks Atticus the sort of questions the other people in the town should be asking instead of instantly prejudging everyone by there looks. The fact that scouts a 6 year old girl with a neutral point of view at the beginning of the story and she is seeing how everyone is judging each other, it really shows how bad it must be in the town. Scout is just saying it as she see’s it as she has no opinions on any of it
