In the article, “How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine’s Sacco’s Life,” by Jon Ronson is an article that shows how a person’s life can change in a matter of minutes because of some else’s opinion about post. People take other’s post on social media and tend to either take the post out of context or reword the original meaning of the text into something completely opposite. Everyone who is involved will be affected in some way. Whether they are the poster or the person shamming, someone will end hurt and/or their lives will be changed at the end of the day.
In Ronson’s article, he tells how he was once a “keen shame” on Twitter. He would be one of the first to let social media know about anything someone posted that could be offensive or taken out of context. He used his personal experiences and encounters to make the article more meaningful. When people read his article, they can understand Ronson’s thesis as social media has a huge impact on public shamming. He explains how people are mentally and physically impacted because other people tend to add their own opinion into someone else’s life.
