I Want Your Love: Pornography or Should it be Considered Something Else
In modern society, pornographic representations are growing to become more acceptable in all aspects of life. Alongside this progression, the expanse of the pornographic genre has been increasing dramatically in the past few years. I was surprised to hear James had a degree in nursing and how independent and cautious he was with his practice. I was particularly interested in the fact that he has 3 separate names to use for varying situations to isolate his work from his life. Personally, I was astounded to hear he had refused to engage in role-playing pedophilia and bestiality simply because he did not want to advocate people to explore those desires. One such occasion is the research study by Hald and Malamuth that looked at whether pornography lead to aggression. I find a personal interest in the negative effects of pornography and was hoping to talk in depth about the topic. Since pornography addiction can lead to some serious health problems I am surprised it did not come up when looking at the study or at other times during the class. However, a limitation of the conversation on porn addiction is that there is no universally accepted definition of what is considered porn addiction. I believe this is lacking in definition due to the problems that may arise with relationship attachment before adverse outcomes can be observed.
Although, I presume that if you’re looking at any type of addiction you already understand there is a negative impact. Therefore, it would be more educational to look at the effects of modest use rather than look at addiction which may create a negative outlook by students towards pornography. Since there is already a lack of sexual expression and education in Western culture maybe a look at modest use was more
