It makes sure the ego handles the demands of the id in a morally acceptable manner. The superego is classified into two parts, the ego ideal and the conscience. The ego ideal is the branch of the superego that gathers all its morally acknowledge undertakings and rewards the ego with pride and self-esteem, while the conscience is responsible for disciplining the morally wrong actions of the ego through infamy, guilt and humiliation (Knafo, 2009).
