Because he was the third child of Fyodor Stravinsky, a famous singer in Saint Petersburg, Stravinsky was lived and attached to music when he was a kid. Stravinsky began his first Piano lessons when he was nine years old; however, his Piano’s teacher told to his parents that he didn’t have big talent about it. About Stravinsky, he didn’t want to learn traditional Piano style, so he is just interested in improvisation and began dabbling in composition (Decker, 220). During 1901, Stravinsky enrolled in the University of St. Petersburg; at this time, he heard a lot with music, such as Tchaikovsky, Glinka, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Therefore, these music styles influenced a lot to Stravinsky’s style later on.
Igor Stravinsky’s career, as a composer, began after he met and worked with Rimsky-Korsakov in 1902 until Rimsky-Korsakov died at 1908. In 1902, after Stravinsky’s father passed away, Stravinsky lived with Rimsky-Korsakov and his family members. At this time, Rimsky-Korsakov was not only became Stravinsky‘s musical tutor, but he also was Stravinsky’s substitute father when Stravinsky studied in law school.
