The Mauryans and the Guptas made a significant amount of intellectual accomplishments in Classical India. They had one of the very first university centers. They made many discoveries in astronomy, medicine, and mathematics. Indian scientists discovered the length of the solar year and identified seven planets. They developed the theory of gravity and created a vaccine for small pox. In mathematics, they invented the number system we use today, the concept of zero, negative numbers, and the decimal system.
