I am a private individual and I value my privacy. Therefore, there may be nights when I cannot sleep and want to step up late, to play on my computer, read a book or watch television without the worries of disturbing a roommate. Having my own room would allow me to personalize it, giving my room that homey touch by adding my personal belongings such as my easy chair, pictures and more importantly my own bed that offers my body good support. All of these activities are enjoyable and give me a sense of purpose in life; and would be included in my care plan. Gardening is one of many activities I enjoy. I love to get my hands dirty and I get a great deal of satisfaction out of watching things grow. Gardening is also a good activity for me because it helps keep my hand and fingers nimble, which is important to me since I have Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Besides gardening, working with animals brings pleasure to my life. Having a pet fosters a feeling of love and being needed and when I am feeling down, a pet gives my self-esteem a boost. Animals are relaxing as well. Pet therapy is known to have positive effects on patients who suffer from chronic pain issues and offers residents an opportunity to exercise while interacting with the pets (“Benefits of the Human-Animal Bond,” 2018).
Participating in a daily exercise program is essential in keeping my joints lubricated and from getting stiff. Specialized exercise programs such as Tai Chi, Chair Pilates, swimming, flexibility and strengthening exercises are necessary for my overall good health and help me to adapt as my overall physical condition and mobility
