Gestalt psychology or gestaltism (German: Gestalt – "essence or shape of an entity's complete form") is a theory which supports the view that the brain is holistic, parallel, and analogue, with self-organizing tendencies. The term was coined by the German biologist Ernst Haeckel. It recognises the fundamental interdependence of all phenomena and it is concerned with ecosystem processes and their dynamically interacting parts including organisms, the communities they make up, and the non-living components of their environment.
