Abraham Maslow (1908-1970) born into a family of Russian Jewish immigrants to the United States. “He was the eldest child of seven children, and described in his youth as “an extraordinarily shy neurotic young man, depressed, terribly unhappy, lonely and self-rejecting. Clodagh firstly enjoyed school and showed initiative as her teacher thought her to be academically quite advanced, nevertheless as time progressed she became inhibited by a sense of fear and failure perhaps by punishing herself by missing school days.
Due to mothers’ withdrawal according to Erickson, Clodagh caries a sense of guilt which can lead to depression and anxiety. Clodagh displays a tendency to seek approval which is evident by Clodagh caring for her siblings. (Deegan, 2017)

The Main strength developed for a child is competence and perseverance whereas the conflicting impact would be that a child may start to lose hope, feel a sense of mediocrity and withdrawal from their peers. Coupled with the fact that Clodagh enjoyed achievement as she was motivated in school by her teacher through praise thus feeling an equal to her peers she now feels inferior and isolated as she is now embarrassed by her appearance due to the fact she has headlice and her clothes are unwashed. This withdrawal is evidencing of the emotional and physical neglect she is
