My schedule at the Exchange Club was on Monday afternoons from 4 to 9 and Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 8. On Mondays, group therapy was conducted on site. On Tuesday nights, we were off site at a church located on Hickory Hill Rd. During these two days, I had several responsibilities. First, as an undergraduate intern I do not have the qualifications to assess and interview prospective clients. However, while intakes were assessed, I was responsible for assisting children and mothers as they complete their paperwork in case of any questions.. During occasions were we did not have any play therapy clients, I had the opportunity to speak to Mary Jane about my experience at Christian Brothers University and my future career goals. I expressed to her my interest in counseling and the reasons behind deciding to take this career path. In return, she advised me about the benefits and drawbacks of pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health. By being in the field of counseling for over 25 year, she suggested I attain my Masters in Social work as this degree will create better job opportunities. A Masters in Social Work will not limit me to one career path because I will be qualified to attain positions that require other kills besides counseling.
