Literacy is defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the ability to read and write”. Many of us are blessed to be able to read and write. In Malcolm X’s article he considered being literate, as “In fact, up to then, I never had been so truly free in my life.” He explained the critical part of being a literate person, which is to free him self. Being a literate person is an essential skill to have in order to survive in this world.
Learning a different language is a hard task in many ways. Cultural differences and different accents are very complicated to learn or get used to it. I learned English language, and trust me it was tough. In this paper, I will write about my experience of learning English. I am from Saudi Arabia, and our first language is Arabic. In my country being a literate in Arabic is not enough anymore in order to get a great job. Many people these days tend to learn a second language in order to support their resumes and develop them selves.
