The daily words assigned were known as “The words of the day” and at the end of the month there would be a “words quiz” on the words that were assigned over the course of that month. Being that we needed to remember a plethora of definitions, my best friend, Matt, and I would resort to using comical, arbitrary, and absurd sentence examples that we would share with the class to aid us in remembering the definitions of the words given and how to use them in a sentence when the time of the quiz came. Our sentences included a variety of comical jokes and references pertaining to random well known Political figures, inside jokes about people we knew, our antics throughout high school (An example of our antics: stealing the caution wet floor signs from around the school until the janitors finally locked the closet doors. From there we would take them when they would leave them out. We were never caught). After actually becoming interested in learning, I was set on a path that would lead me to uncover quite a bit about myself and my true capabilities. I now finally had an interest in something that would benefit my GPA and my all around well-being for my future. This interest led me to putting forth an extreme amount of effort into other classes and becoming a scholar, I raised my GPA to a 90 and made myself well-known for my knowledge of writing and my sense of humor. A big thanks to my English teacher, Foor-Pessin, is more than well deserved. To explain Mr. Foor-Pessin would be like trying to explain metaphysics in ten words or less. In a nutshell, Foor-Pessin (or as I call him, Foor-Poppy) has been teaching for probably about five hundred years; the man is literally a human encyclopedia. He teaches the way he feels best and actually has the capability of making students learn what they are being taught and closes the gap between “teacher” and “student”. He is a little unorthodox, and that is exactly what makes him such a great teacher, and why I respected and enjoyed his teaching so much.
