Our, my peers and I, very first exam in a college course took place this week, and much is to be gained from that experience. Effective studying and being productive during any and every opportunity to finalize classroom work are things that I have learned to be crucial when attempting to prepare for a test. Keeping in mind what we have learned about our learning preferences and their corresponding suggested studying techniques something that was used to everyone’s advantage because knowing those allowed us to test several studying/learning methods until we found something that could be of use to us. Writing in cursive is helpful, for those who have mastered the art, when ideas or facts must be quickly jotted down before forgotten or before new information is thrown at you because of the impressive amount of letters that are able to be written with a single stroke. On the topic of note taking, a new and very helpful structure for note taking has been introduced to us. Chapter outlines can act as review sheets, an activity to keep you on task while reading a chapter, and a tool to ensure your understanding about the material you are reading. When writing a chapter outline, large/overall subjects are listed and broken down into information that tapers from most general to most specific. This week, I attempted to write outlines for chapters one and two and discovered that with practice this note taking strategy is fairly easy makes readings go by much faster with less distractions. I plan on using this strategy for every chapter assigned to read in this course and even future courses because I owe it (this strategy) credit for every piece of information I retained and was able to use this week on my
