PART A- What is Perception? Explain its importance in the service sector.
Perception is how a person understands something. It is the ability to regard or interpret a situation in a specific manner. Perception allows us to experience the various things around us. We perceive different things differently everyday and sometimes our perception towards the same thing changes over time as well. These things can be tangible or intangible. For example, we may perceive a person negatively for the first time we meet him/her but our outlook towards that person could change over a period of time.

A manager needs to understand that when the employee’s perception is positive towards his work, the outcome of his work will be positive too. Work consumes a lot of our life and therefore, it just does not affect the quality of our life but also our mood as well as health.
Therefore, the attitude of the worker will influence the efficiency and profitability of the company. Many surveys have been done to analyze what affects the employee’s performance. It has been found out that how the employee perceives his job is the highest scorer.
The management should therefore take steps to make their perceptions more favorable in order to increase the company’s goodwill. They should take steps of being transparent, that is to show the employee the overall activities in the company and being fully honest with them. They should effectively explain each and every employee’s role in the company, this gives the employee a boost to work better. As they realize that they too are important for the company’s high results.

Vision and Goal- an HR should ask himself where he wants the company to stand in the next 5 or 10years, weather he wants the company to excel in one particular field and be the best at it in the market. Only planning will not help, the implementation of the pans need to be done as well.
vi. Importance of data- for an HR just having strategies and ideas is not the end, data to support them is the key. For an HR to earn the respect, he/she needs to know the figures, calculations, analysis and projections of the company’s data.
vii. Zest to share and develop- a HR has a very important role to play. He can groom, transform and share knowledge and ideas with the people around. Careers can be developed and also the HR can help change an individual’s perception and behavior.
viii. Self-Discipline- this is a key attribute for any individual in any profession. For an HR this is a must as he needs to be disciplined himself to set benchmark. He should not give anyone else a chance to point fingers at him and not let anything get out of
